Los Naranjos is a coffee project from the rural area of Llanada Naranjos in San Agustín, Huila — a region as well known for its pre-Columbian archaeology, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995, as for its coffee. Started in 2006, the project brings together small producers farming between 1 and 5 hectares, supported by ongoing agronomy visits to keep improving quality harvest after harvest.
This lot comes from Edgar Ernesto Galindez Argote, one of the growers contributing to Los Naranjos. Huila has become one of Colombia's leading specialty coffee regions, and San Agustín's position in the central cordillera, close to the Colombian Massif, gives its coffee real character. While Caturra, Tabí, and Castillo are the traditional varieties here, producers like Edgar have also begun planting rarer varieties such as Geisha and Pink Bourbon, often alongside other crops like sugar cane for panela and avocado.
Harvest & Process
Ripe cherries are hand-picked selectively roughly every two weeks through the harvest. After depulping, the coffee ferments for about 30 hours in tiled tanks before being washed two to three times and dried for 10–15 days on parabolic patios or covered rooftop beds. San Agustín has two harvest windows: a main one from May to August, and a smaller one from October to January.
