Jaguara Farm was originally founded by three friends — Antonio Wander, Rubem Carlos, and Rubem Murilo — who planted the first coffee trees in 2001 in the Campo das Vertentes region. The farm was named after a prominent Quilombola community nearby.
Today, Jaguara Farm is owned by André Luíz Garcia, his wife Natália Moreira Brito, and their son Benicio Garcia.
André is a third-generation coffee producer, as well as an agronomist and researcher at the Procafé Foundation, specializing in pruning and coffee production. Natália, a second-generation producer, is also a cupper and coffee trader. Together, they complement each other’s strengths to continually develop their farm, creating a wide range of coffee profiles by experimenting with different fermentation and drying methods.
The farm is located near São João del Rei, a historic town known more for its gold mining past than for coffee. However, thanks to the area’s relatively high mountains (by Brazilian standards), coffee trees have adapted well.
Jaguara Farm’s soil is red and yellow volcanic soil, with a medium texture typical of the Brazilian savanna. They grow varieties such as Acaia, Yellow Catuai, Yellow Catucai, and Mundo Novo.
André’s work at Procafé gives him unique insights into how different coffee cultivars can perform on their farm. Although they exclusively produce natural process coffees, they enjoy experimenting within that style.
