The factory operates under the New Gikaru Farmers' Cooperative Society and is Fairtrade certified, sourcing cherries from smallholders who each farm an average of 0.8 acres and around 200 coffee trees, mainly of the Ruiru 11, SL-28, SL-34, and Batian varieties.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eThangathi sits at 1,590–1,600 metres above sea level on deep, fertile, well-drained red volcanic soils, with a moderate bimodal rainfall pattern of around 1,100mm a year.
